The Wine / Port lover probably already knows them: Quinta do Passadouro, Quinta do Noval, Quinta do Bomfim, Quinta da Cavadinha, Quinta de Terra Feita. And there are a number of others. Big names of wine estates from renowned Port houses. All found in the Pinhão Valley, which takes its name from the Pinhão River that winds through this landscape and gave the name to the village of Pinhão, where it flows into the Douro. New businesses have settled here, such as Quinta do Portal. Young winemakers have bought small vineyards here and produce wines that are among the top in the world. Names like Poeira and Pintas for example. But Dirk Niepoort also makes one of his wines here, Charme.

And the Pinhão Valley, together with the Torto Valley, forms the heart of the old port area. Together with many others, they make up this huge, beautiful wine region in the north of Portugal.
